Ingredients of Apple Crisp
- 8 cups peeled, cored, sliced apples, cut into 1⁄2-inch slices
- 2 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
- 1⁄2 cup sugar
- 1 cup ground nuts (walnuts or almonds), ground in a food processor or chopped finely
- 1 3⁄4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1⁄2 cup dark brown sugar
- 1⁄4 cup sugar
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1⁄2 tsp. salt
- 12 Tbsp. unsalted butter, cut in chunks
Steps To Make Apple Crisp
Preheat oven to 350°F.
In a bowl, toss the apples with 2 tablespoons flour and 1⁄2 cup sugar. Turn the mixture into an ungreased 9-by-11-inch baking dish. Set aside.
In a bowl combine the nuts, 1 3⁄4 cups flour, brown sugar, sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Add the butter chunks and mix with an electric mixer to a sandy consistency. When this streusel-like topping clumps together when squeezed in the palm of your hand, it is ready to use.
Cover the apple mixture evenly with the topping and bake for 1 hour, or until the juices start to bubble up and caramelize. Test to see if the apples are done by inserting a knife in the middle. It should cut through easily.
Remove crisp from oven and cut around the sides to loosen. Cut into squares. Serve warm. This can also be baked ahead of time and reheated later.
