They are high in B vitamins, calcium, protein, and fiber, and are sometimes referred to as Irish oatmeal. Toasting steel-cut oats will enhance the flavor and allow them to cook in half the time.

Ingredients of Pressure Cooker Steel-Cut Oats


  • 4 cups water, divided
  • 1 cup steel-cut oats
  • 1 Tbsp. butter
  • 1⁄8 tsp. salt

Steps To Make Pressure Cooker Steel-Cut Oats


  • To toast the oats, preheat the oven to 300°F. Place the steel-cut oats on a baking sheet. Bake for 20 minutes.
  • Place 1 cup water in the pressure cooker and add the steamer basket.
  • In a metal bowl that will fit inside the pressure cooker, add the oats, butter, salt, and 3 cups water.
  • Lower the uncovered bowl into the pressure cooker using a foil sling. Close and lock the lid.
  • Turn the heat up to high. When the cooker reaches pressure, lower the heat to the minimum needed to maintain pressure. Cook for 3 to 5 minutes at high pressure.
  • Remove from the heat and allow the pot to sit for 30 minutes before carefully releasing any residual pressure.
  • Spoon the cooked oats into bowls and season as you would regular oatmeal.
