Ingredients of Sweet spiced biscuits

  • 300g (2 cups) plain flour, sifted
  • 80g (1/3 cup) caster sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 lemon, rind finely grated
  • 250g unsalted butter, chilled, cubed
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 60g (1/4 cup) sugar, to sprinkle

Steps To Make Sweet spiced biscuits

Method

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 180°C. Line 2 baking trays with non-stick paper.
  • Step 2
    Place flour, caster sugar, baking powder, spices, lemon rind and butter in the bowl of a food processor. Process until mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. Add the water and process until mixture just comes together.
  • Step 3
    urn onto a lightly floured surface and knead lightly until smooth. Shape into a disc, wrap in plastic wrap and place in fridge for 30 minutes to rest.

    Divide the dough into 2 portions. Roll 1 portion of the dough between

    Sheets of non-stick baking paper until it is about 5mm thick. Use a 6.5cm fluted round cutter to cut out biscuits and place on the lined trays. Sprinkle the biscuits with the sugar. Repeat with the remaining dough.
  • Step 6
    Bake the biscuits in preheated oven, swapping the trays halfway through cooking, for 15-20 minutes or until light golden and cooked through. Remove from the oven and set aside on the trays to cool completely.
